Programme Spotlight: Singer DLS

A Timeless Icon, Reborn for Today.

The Porsche 911 is one of the most recognisable shapes in automotive history. For decades, its air-cooled engines and timeless design have defined driving purity.

Launched in 2018, the Dynamics and Lightweighting Study (DLS) was born from a collaboration between Singer Vehicle Design and Williams Advanced Engineering. A reimagining of the iconic 911 transforming the donor 964 as a restomod that blends timeless design with cutting-edge engineering in a limited run of 75 units.

It takes the classic 964 chassis and, through advanced engineering and obsessive attention to detail, transforms it into the ultimate expression of the air-cooled 911.

Every element reconsidered. A carbon fibre body reduces weight while retaining the unmistakable 911 silhouette. The interior blends traditional craftsmanship with modern engineering and manufacturing. Systems integration ensures that performance, reliability, and usability meet today’s highest standards without losing the character of the original.

The result is not a replica, but a rebirth: the ultimate air-cooled 911, shaped by heritage and perfected with modern engineering.

The Singer DLS … the ultimate lightweight air-cooled 911.

TECNIQ. At the Billericay Soapbox Derby

Appointed by Singer

TECNIQ was appointed by Singer Vehicle Design to deliver technical expertise and creative development focussed on designing the body and interior systems engineering. Our role centered around the development of the body, the interior and system integration and included a full engineering programme from prototype to production release.

Working in the US we engineered all elements; body structures, vehicle architecture and assembly engineering, reverse engineering the donor vehicle.

This involved extensive testing and development to meet crash regulations, understanding the relationship between weight and stiffnes enabling us to development the most optimal solution.  The results?  … body, roll cage and reinforcement panels used torsion and beaming to deliver significant stiffness gains whilst reducing vehicle weight towards performance.

A full 14-month engineering programme from clay to full body manufacture that included:

  • Business case development
  • Styling programme support
  • Structural analysis and extensive testing and development to meet crash regulations
  • Feasibility and concept engineering
  • Reverse engineering the donor vehicle working with surface designs to arrive at our engineering canvas
  • Extensive testing, FE and development for crash regulations and dynamic performance
  • Working from clay, engineering all elements; body structures, vehicles architecture and assembly engineering
  • Structural and semi-structural carbon fibre
  • Metal intrusion beam testing and development and glass drop system
  • Shear panel roof for torsional rigidity
  • Closures and sealing systems
  • Structural oil cooler system ducting for packaging and integrating sub-system components.
  • All tooling and assembly fixturing
  • Prototype manufacture

Working in the US we engineered all elements; body structures, vehicle architecture and assembly engineering, reverse engineering the donor vehicle.
